From curriculum, to training, to music and more, we've done all the legwork for you. Here are the resources we have found to be most helpful.
One of the easiest and best things you can do with residents is to sing! It is amazing to see how residents, particularly those with dementia, come alive when they sing familiar songs, and especially the hymns they grew up with in church. But don't worry- you don't have to be a great singer and you don't have to play an instrument. We have had success with cds that have voices leading the hymns; we just bring along your cd player, gather a few residents, and pop in the cd! You can also get "hymnals" that have large printed words for the hymns on the cd.

You can find a variety of excellent materials here. The hymn booklet you see pictured to the right is actually from this site. You can order sing along CD's to go with the booklets. These are free too!

The hymn recordings on this site are purposely a little slower, shorter, and in a lower key for ease of use with folks with dementia. We especially like this feature as well as the vocals and instrumentation. These downloads are free! There's also a YouTube channel that offers worship services and sing along videos with words on the the screen.
For a whole host of materials, from training videos and books to downloadable scripture pages and devotionals, visit https://www.godcaresministry.com/. Many of their resources are free.
For large print devotionals shipped quarterly for free, visit Our Daily Bread: https://odb.org/getprint/. They also have monthly booklets available for a donation of any amount.
For free Bible quiz printables, visit https://www.religionresourcesonline.org/bible-quiz/. Use these with residents yourself or share this link with activities directors.
We've used all of the resources above and have found them to be very helpful. We realize that not every church will align with every point of theology on all of these sites, so please peruse them and choose the resources that work for you.
We are also working on developing our own materials, which you can download below for free. We want to make things as easy as possible for you to get started with your nursing home ministry.
*Please note we have recently removed the majority of our Faith and Funnies resident newsletters and will be adding them back as we revamp them. We apologize for this inconvenience as we know these are quite popular with residents. Keep checking back or sign up for email alerts for when we post new content.
These lessons have a leader's guide and a packet for residents with the scripture readings printed in large font. Some packets contain song lyrics as well as other printables such as a word search or coloring page. As always, feel free to use these resources however they best serve you.
Download, print and give to residents. Many of them love to color! And bonus--coloring has been shown to reduce anxiety and is often used a part of art therapy.

DownloadListen to a young nursing home volunteer talk about how important it is to visit residents. "We don't need to rely on our government to take action for us. As individuals, we can make our own direct impact by taking time to volunteer."
We've seen this exact scenario play out over and over. This is why we do what we do.
